she moves resolutely forward all the same, as if compelled.

It is that idea that finally slows her feet.

Just where are you taking me? Mercy asks the thing hovering at the back of her consciousness, but her query yields only frustrating silence. With considerable force of will, she finally brings herself to a full stop, just as she crests the hill and enters the temple district proper.

Against the backdrop of the setting sun, it is, even Mercy has to admit, a striking sight. These resplendent structures do not show the wear and tear of time as the buildings
